Expressive Portrait Sketches

These artworks reflect my fascination with human emotion, distortion, and how we perceive identity. I’ve used expressive mark-making and layered textures to go beyond likeness—capturing something more raw and psychological. The overlapping faces suggest how identity and experience can fragment—an idea I find relevant in architecture, where space can shape mood and memory. The eye studies act as “windows,” both literal and symbolic, much like how buildings frame light, views, and emotion.Using text as part of the portrait explores how stories and surfaces interact—just like materials and context do in architecture. The final, quieter portrait reflects stillness and introspection—reminding me that good design also creates space to pause and reflect. In both art and architecture, I’m interested in how form, line, and texture tell stories—how they make us feel. These pieces show how I begin with emotion and observation to shape ideas, and that’s the same approach I bring to architecture
